If you visit Mexico City or you live here and someone comes to visit you, this place is perfect for such an occasion. First of all it is located in the very center of the city and you have all the main attractions within walking distance -( Palacio de Bellas Artes, Palacio Nacional, Zocalo etc.) and secondly, it is a very pretty place. So, you can easily combine your day site seeing with a hearty lunch in Azul Histórico.
We shared an oyster plate with our friends and even though I am not such a big fun of oysters, they were very fresh and the onions gave them a nice smoky touch. It was however, just a tad too salty for me. The portion that you see here is enough as an appetiser for 4 people. Then we order green tamales so that our friends visiting from Switzerland could try them. It was nothing to write home about.
The zucchini flower cream soup (la crema de flor de calabaza) on the other hand will blow your mind. Requiring 18 flowers to make one bowl of this soup, this silky dish is a true Mexican treasure.
This savoury Yucatan fish course (Pescado Tikin XIC) is made with achiote which adds a piquant flavour to it.
And finally, the beautiful ladies wearing Mexican folk costumes and making tortillas enhance your overall experience and remind you that you are definitely in Mexico.
